I opened the batting with Bill Lawry when he scored 282 not out for Northcote against Essendon to win the 1965-66 Victoria Cricket Association Premiership final. Camo Broncos Jerseys .I was a 22-year-old in my fourth year of grade cricket. Bill had just come off a hundred at the MCG against England that helped Australia retain the Ashes. He batted for 509 minutes and faced 454 balls. It was a two-innings match, supposed to be played over two weekends. But the rules were that if there was no chance of getting both innings in, the match would be decided on whoever scored the most runs in their first innings. The first innings had to be played to a finish, though. It took three weekends to finish this game. Essendon scored 514 for 9 declared, batting first. Thats a lot of runs, someone said in our dressing room, after wed come off. Bill didnt think it was enough, though. The wicket was good and he couldnt understand why theyd declared. This is a grand final, he told everyone.Earlier in the season, he had made a duck against Essendon. Hes got a memory like an elephant, forgets nothing, and was determined to make up for this rare failure. Straightaway he started accumulating runs. Nothing flash, just like he was playing in a Test match.Thats what stood out about Bill. He played club cricket just as seriously and carefully as if he was playing for Australia.I was dropped at third slip first ball, but was still there at the close of play. We had 98 by then. Bill said that if I didnt get out in the first hour the next day, wed win the game. He also told me not to play back to their legspinner. The next day, just after the hour, I played back to the legspinner and was out lbw.Bill didnt give a single chance in his 282, in almost two and a half days of batting. It was the same whenever he batted. Never looked like getting out. Bill saw the ball much earlier than the rest of us, and at club level didnt appear to have any weaknesses. He judged the ball perfectly outside off stump. Even when the opposition had their state players, Bill dominated, simply by having complete mastery of his game.Playing with someone that good inspired you to play better yourself. Our middle-order batsman Tom Ryan was a bit of a hitter, but for the final, Bill just said to him. Cut that out today. Tom scored 82 and put on nearly 200 with Bill.As a captain, Bill was a hard taskmaster, but people listened to him. He dropped me to No. 11 for one game because I questioned one of his decisions. The final against Essendon was played at the Albert Ground in Melbourne, the Melbourne Cricket Clubs second ground. Id never seen it so full. As Bill closed in on the target, there was a 70-metre queue outside to get in. Elite Broncos Jerseys . SYRACUSE, N. White Flames Jerseys .Y. -- Andrew White says its way too early to call himself an X factor for No. 18 Syracuse. The fifth-year transfer from Nebraska may just be the difference maker, however, for a team that looks like it may be one of the nations elite.White, who shot 41 percent from 3-point range a year ago, signed with the Orange the day before fall classes started. He gives the Orange a dimension they appeared to be lacking entering the season.I definitely think hes a difference maker, said fellow fifth-year transfer John Gillon. The way he spreads the floor and how quick his release is theres really not five people who can shoot like that in the nation.White scored 19 points, Tyler Lydon had 17, and Syracuse went on a 14-0 run in the first half to take control and overpower Holy Cross 90-46 on Tuesday night.Syracuse (2-0) shot 58 percent from the field and was 13 for 25 on 3-pointers. White went 5 of 10 from beyond the arc after going 2 of 7 in the Oranges season opener against Colgate.Hes a huge piece of this team, Lydon said. He can do a lot of great things on the court. Adding him was huge for us. Anytime you have a guy who can space the floor like thats huge.White, a modest sort, preferred to let his teammates do the talking.Id rather that question be answered by my teammates, White said. Theyre the ones evaluating what my value is. I just try to come in and take care of business, take pressure off my teammates. I think thats what Ill do most. And just two games into the season, White says talk of his importance is a tad premature.I think were all critical. I think were all X factors. As far as me being the X factor I think its a little early now to be saying that. Im just trying to come in and do my job.And his job is knocking down 3s, a skill in which he has supreme confidence. My motto is if a shoot a shot its supposed to go in, he added. Thats why I dont get too excited when I hit a three or celebrate too much. My coaches and teammates expect the shot to go in when I attempt it.Coach Jim Boeheim praised White. He was geared up tonight. He was ready to go. He was focused in, Boeheim said. Hes a shooter. Obviously thats what he does. Were happy we have him here.Tyus Battle was 3 of 5 from long range, while Gillon made two while adding 15 points, nine assists and just one turnover off the bench.Anthony Thompson had 12 points, while Robert Champion and Malachi Alexander had eight apiece for the Crusaders (0-2). The Crusaders shot just 31 percent for the game.Asked what he would take away from the game, Holy Cross coach Bill Carmody had a succinct response: Nothing.Besides their 3-point attack, the Orange tallied 18 second-chance points, had 32 inside the paint, and scored 31 points off Holy Cross turnovers. The Orange outrebounded the smaller Crusaders 39-27. At one point in the first half, Syracuse had a 16-3 advantage on the boards. The Orange led 22-14 when they went on their 14-0 blitz to take control. The run featured four 3-pointers, two by White and one each by Frank Howard and Battle. Syracuse led 49-23 at the half.BIG PICTURE:Holy Cross: Its not fair to judge Holy Crosss outlook for the 2016-17 season based on Tuesdays outcome, but we may know more after Fridays matchup against UMass.Syracuse: This is one of Jim Boeheims best offensive teams in years. If youre looking for Lamar Jackson, Jabrill Peppers or anybody else who was at the Heisman ceremony at the very top, youll have to scroll down. An Alabama defensive star was our panels No. 1 player.Jonathan Allen Alabama Crimson Tide Senior | Defensive lineman? Score: 9.9 Previous rank: 3 If Allen is sour about not getting invited to the Heisman Trophy ceremony, heres his chance to show it. Washington hasnt seen a defensive lineman with his size (294 pounds) and speed (8.5 sacks, 15 QB hurries, a blocked kick and two defensive touchdowns). -- Alex ScarboroughDede Westbrook Oklahoma Sooners Senior | Wide receiver Score: 9.75 Previous rank: 1The Heisman finalist is averaging 48.8 yards on his touchdown catches. Its safe to say that Auburn hasnt had to deal with a deep threat like that all season. -- Jake TrotterLamar Jackson Louisville Cardinals Sophomore | Quarterback Score: 9.7 Previous rank: 2Jackson will be playing in his first game since he won the Heisman Trophy, so here is betting LSU will come after him hard to make a statement. But Jackson has a statement of his own to make, after the Cards lost their final two games and he had a crucial fumble late against Kentucky. Last years bowl performance was a springboard for 2016. Hes hoping for the same into 2017. -- Andrea AdelsonDeshaun Watson Clemson Tigers Junior | Quarterback Score: 9.65 Previous rank: 11A year ago, Watson nearly single-handedly led Clemson to a national championship, so the task will at least be a familiar one this season. Watson has played his best football during November and December (1,784 yards, 20 TDs) and has the Tigers offense clicking in time for a tough matchup with Ohio States defense. -- David M. HaleMyles Garrett Texas A&M Aggies Junior | Defensive line Score: 9.6 Previous rank: 21Some teams were fortunate to face a less-than-100 percent Garrett, who was affected by an ankle injury for half the season. Kansas State wont be so fortunate. With a month of rest before the AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl, a full-strength Garrett should be primed for a possible multiple-sack game. -- Sam Khan Jr.Reuben Foster Alabama Crimson Tide Senior | Linebacker Score: 9.55 Previous rank: 12Washington is likely to spread the field and force extra defensive backs into action, leaving Foster on an island against a strong running game that includes Myles Gaskin and Lavon Coleman. Foster already leads Alabama with 94 tackles. You can count on him to break 100 in a few weeks. -- Alex ScarboroughJourdan Lewis Michigan Wolverines Senior | Cornerback Score: 9.5 Previous rank: 7The veteran cornerback doesnt get all that many chances to get his hands on the football, as its usually safer to not test Lewis at all. But if Florida State wants to try to open up the passing attack, odds are at some point it will have to throw Lewis way -- and he will be ready to cap his Michigan career with a memorable performance. -- Austin WardBaker Mayfield Oklahoma Sooners Junior | Quarterback Score: 9.45 Previous rank: 9Mayfield is on track to break the FBS record for passing efficiency. Although Auburn was stout against the run this season, the Tigers were gashed by the SECs better quarterbacks. -- Jake TrotterJabrill Peppers Michigan Wolverines Junior | Linebacker Score: 9.4 Previous rank: 5If this is the end of the line for Peppers with the Wolverines, expect Jim Harbaugh to pull out all the stops for the versatile star by featuring him heavily in all three phases against Florida State. Harbaugh has been almost over-the-top with his praise of all the ways Peppers can impact a football game, and Peppers will likely get a significant showcase for NFL scouts before potentially declaring for the draft. -- Austin WardMinkah Fitzpatrick Alabama Crimson Tide Sophomore | Defensive back Score: 9.35 Previous rank: 13 Washingtons Jake Browning threw just two interceptions in his first seven games. In his past six games, however, he has thrown five picks. Thats good news for Alabamas sophomore safety, who has a team-high five interceptions, including two returned for touchdowns. -- Alex ScarboroughDalvin Cook Florida State Seminoles Junior | Running back Score: 9.3 Previous rank: 8Michigan is the eighth team in the top 25 of defensive efficiency that Cook will face in 2016, and the third in the top 10. Against Florida (ranked fifth) and Clemson (ninth), Cook combined for 322 rushing yards and five touchdowns. But Michigan (third), with its 13th-ranked rush defense, is the toughest group hell see. -- Jared ShankerZach Cunningham Vanderbilt Commodores Junior | Linebacker Score: 9.25 Previous: unranked The high-flying linebacker was one of the SECs most productive players during the regular season, leading the league with 119 tackles. He also has 16.5 tackles for loss, three pass breakups, four fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and that amazing blocked kick against Auburn. -- Edward AschoffEd Oliver Houston Cougars Freshman | Defensive tackle Score: 9.2 Previous rank: 22The nations best true freshman had his best performances against Houstons toughest opponents (Oklahoma and Louisville), so when the Cougars defensive tackle gets to meet San Diego States NCAA rushing record seeker, Donnel Pumphrey, you can bet Oliver will aim for another dominant showing. -- Sam Khan Jr.Christian McCaffrey Stanford Cardinal Junior | Running back Score: 9.15 Previous rank: 19 McCaffrey went on an absolute tear to close the season against some of the Pac-12s weakest run defenses. Now, North Carolina awaits with the nations No. 113-ranked unit, so expect McCaffrey to put on another show, especially because the Hyundai Sun Bowl will be his last time wearing a Stanford uniform. -- David LombardiDerek Barnett Tennessee Volunteers Junior | Defensive end Score: 9.1 Previous rank: 18Barnett finished the regular season with an SEC-high 12 sacks, which gave him 32 for his career and tied Tennessee career sack leader Reggie White (1980-83). Jackson will likely cover the Nittany Lions Chris Godwin, who has grabbed nine touchdowns this season. And, yes, hell be returning kicks and punts. -- David LombardiMalik Hooker Ohio State Buckeyes Sophomore | Defensive back Score: 9 Previous rank: 16The redshirt sophomore made the most of his opportunity to step into the starting lineup, and he has capitalized on virtually every chance that has come his way since then. Hooker already has six interceptions and three touchdowns this season, and with Clemsons Deshaun Watson prone to turning over the football, a couple more golden chances could be heading his way. -- Austin WardDemarcus Walker Florida State Seminoles Senior | Defensive end Score: 8.95 Previous rank: 20 There wasnt a more disruptive defender in the ACC this season, and now Walker turns his attention toward Michigan, a team that allowed its QB to be pressured on 28 percent of dropbacks (47th in Power 5). When Walker had two or more sacks against FBS foes this year, FSU was 5-0 and allowed 17 points per game. When he didnt, the Seminoles were 3-3 and allowed 33 points per game. -- David M. HaleJohn Ross III Washington Huskies Junior | Wide receiver Score: 8.9 Previous rank: 27 The Huskies offense was a hallmark of efficiency throughout most of the regular season, thanks in large part to Ross speed. Now, can he win the chess match against Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts while offering the same level of suffocating run support? -- David LombardiDonnel Pumphrey San Diego State Aztecs Senior | Running back Score: 8.66 Previous rank: 10This will be fun: Pumphrey, who has rushed for 2,018 yards this season, is 108 yards shy of breaking the FBS career record. Pumphrey will face Houston, the nations No. 2-rated run defense (allowing only 2.9 yards per carry) in the Las Vegas Bowl presented by Geico. -- David LombardiRaekwon McMillan Ohio State Buckeyes Junior | Linebacker Score: 8.65 Previous rank: 14There will be some familiar faces lining up on the other sideline in the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl, and Ohio States junior linebacker will no doubt be fired up to make a good impression on the Clemson Tigers. McMillans individual numbers were slightly down this season, but make no mistake: He is playing at a high level and will be in the middle of the effort to slow Deshaun Watson. -- Austin WardJames Washington Oklahoma State Cowboys Junior | Wide receiver Score: 8.6 Previous rank: 44Although Washington will have Colorados attention, Oklahoma States improved rushing attack figures to set up opportunities for the receiver downfield in play-action against an aggressive Buffs defense. -- Jake TrotterLeonard Fournette LSU Tigers Junior | Running back Score: 8.55 Previous rank: unranked Assuming Fournette follows through on his plan to participate in the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl and his gimpy ankle holds up, hell have his work cut out in his final college game. LSUs star running back will go up against a Louisville defense that is one of only four in the FBS to allow fewer than 3 yards per carry (2.99). -- David ChingDesmond King Iowa Hawkeyes Senior | Defensive back Score: 8.5 Previous rank: 29 King, last years Thorpe Award winner as the nations best defensive back, has only two interceptions this season because teams largely avoid targeting him. Even so, he could produce a big game against the Gators in the Outback Bowl. Florida quarterbacks tied for 95th in the country with 13 interceptions. Kings ability to impact the game as a kick returner also shouldnt go unnoticed. -- Jesse TempleChristian Wilkins Clemson Tigers Sophomore | Defensive line Score: 8.45 Previous rank: 24In last years playoff semifinal against Oklahoma, Wilkins proved to be Clemsons secret weapon, catching a pass on a fake punt that served as a turning point in the game. This year, theres no secret about what Wilkins brings to the table. Hes one of the most athletic linemen in the country, and hell be tasked with stuffing Ohio States big-play ground game. -- David M. HaleT.J. Watt Wisconsin Badgers Junior | Linebacker Score: 8.4 Previous rank: 28 Watt has been a disruptive force in the backfield and might present Western Michigan quarterback Zach Terrell with problems he hasnt seen all season. Watt has 3.5 sacks, a forced fumble and an interception return for a touchdown the past three games, which means hes on a hot streak entering the postseason. He wont be too keen on watching the Broncos row the boat. -- Jesse TempleJake Butt Michigan Wolverines Senior | Tight end Score: 8.35 Previous rank: 35Besides Amara Darboh, Butt is Michigans favorite receiving threat. The Wolverines can run the football with multiple players, so if Florida State gets sucked up to the line of scrimmage, Butts route running and catching ability could be key in the Orange Bowl. -- Jesse TempleEthan Pocic LSU Tigers Senior | Center Score: 8.33 Previous rank: 37The All-American center will go head-up in the bowl game against a veteran and longtime starter, Louisville nose tackle DeAngelo Brown. Fifth-year senior Brown made the All-ACC team this season, posting 11 tackles for loss and three sacks while anchoring a defensive front that ranks 10th nationally against the run. -- David ChingJ.T. Barrett Ohio State Buckeyes Junior | Quarterback Score: 8.3 Previous rank: 42 Maybe the offense wasnt as explosive through the air this season as the junior mightve liked, but as far as down seasons go, accounting for 33 touchdowns doesnt leave all that much to complain about for Ohio State. The Buckeyes have complete trust in Barrett to run the power spread offense and have long bought what he sells as the unquestioned leader. Both will be vitally important heading into the biggest games of Barretts career. -- Austin WardMike Williams Clemson Tigers Junior | Wide receiver Score: 8.25 Previous rank: 30 Ohio State allowed just three red zone touchdowns to wide receivers this year, but Williams presents a different type of target. At 6-foot-3, 225 pounds, he is both fast and physical and happy to go over, past or through a defender. He finished the regular season second in the nation in both targets (27) and touchdowns (9) in the red zone. -- David M. HaleSaquon Barkley Penn State Nittany Lions Sophomore | Running back Score: 8.2 Previous rank: 23 With a month of rest, Barkley should be primed for a big day against USC in the Rose Bowl. USCs run defense has been stingy and ranks 29th nationally. But if any player can break through, its Barkley, who is one of the most exciting, dynamic runners in college football. -- Jesse TempleTeez Tabor Florida Gators Junior | Defensive back Score: 8.18 Previous rank: 26Tabor might not have been as active as he was last season, but hes still considered a first-round draft pick, thanks to his shutdown corner skills. He has four interceptions and has defended nine passes on the season, and he has plenty of postseason motivation after not being named a Jim Thorpe finalist. -- Edward AschoffSam Darnold USC Trojans Freshman | Quarterback Score: 8.15 Previous rank: 41 Darnold ranks second nationally with an 87.0 QBR. His excellent play is a huge reason USC is in the Rose Bowl. Now the freshman has a chance to showcase his versatility in the Granddaddy Of Them All, in which a solid Penn State pass defense awaits. The Nittany Lions have allowed 6.2 yards per attempt, which ranks them 14th nationally. -- David LombardiJake Browning Washington Huskies Sophomore | Quarterback Score: 8.1 Previous rank: 17A large portion of the Huskies chances against Alabama rest on Brownings shoulders. He is throwing a touchdown pass once every 8.4 attempts -- an NCAA record -- but he has also experienced struggles against the better defenses Washington has faced. The Crimson Tide give Browning the opportunity to address some nagging doubts. -- David LombardiTreDavious White LSU Tigers Senior | Cornerback Score: 8.05 Previous rank: unranked Defending the nations most explosive offense will be a major challenge for the LSU cornerback/return man, but White should have plenty of opportunities to make game-changing plays against Louisville. The Cardinals have turned the ball over 31 times, fourth-most in the FBS, and rank 83rd nationally in punt return defense, at 9.2 yards per return. -- David ChingDorian Johnson Pittsburgh Panthers Senior | Offensive line Score: 8 Previous rank: 37 Pitt will face a tough winter test in the Bronx against Northwestern and its stingy run defense. That will be a fitting finale for Johnson, who is as strong a reason as any for the Panthers ground success. Hes Pitts first first-team All-American O-lineman in 22 years, and hes positioning himself for a nice payday come spring. -- Matt FortunaSamaje Perine Oklahoma Sooners Junior | Running back Score: 7.95 Previous rank: unranked If Oklahoma can get up on Auburn in the second half, expect the Sooners to turn to Perine to put the game away. Perine is just 82 yards away from breaking Billy Sims Oklahoma record of 4,118 career rushing yards. -- Jake TrotterJames Conner Pittsburgh Panthers Junior | Running back Score: 7.9 Previous rank: 36 Conner announced over the weekend that he is NFL-bound, so he will be making his collegiate finale against Northwestern. After another 1,000-yard season, numerous ACC touchdown records and more inspirational speeches and hardware than anyone can count, the cancer conqueror will take a curtain call at Yankee Stadium, which is no stranger to chilling moments. -- Matt FortunaBen Boulware Clemson Tigers Senior | Linebacker Score: 7.85 Previous rank: unrankedBoulware leads the Tigers with 113 tackles, and he is the emotional leader of the team. He will be at his best in the final game (or games) of his career. Also, lets not forget Boulware was named defensive MVP in the Capital One Orange Bowl semifinal against Oklahoma last year, after he recorded eight tackles, a sack and a fourth-quarter interception in the 37-17 victory. -- Andrea AdelsonEjuan Price Pittsburgh Panthers Senior | Defensive line Score: 7.8 Previous rank: 33 The Hendricks Award finalist and sixth-year senior overcame numerous injuries to post a ridiculously efficient final two seasons of production. Hell take his 12 sacks and ACC-leading 21 TFLs this season into the finale against Northwestern, which has surrendered 35 sacks on the year and will have its work cut out for it in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. -- Matt FortunaJuJu Smith-Schuster USC Trojans Junior | Wide receiver Score: 7.75 Previous rank: 32 Penn States pass defense has delivered solid numbers this year, but Schuster and his fellow Trojans receivers will test that unit in the Rose Bowl. Schusters production -- 63 catches for 781 yards -- is down from last season, but quarterback Sam Darnold is spreading the ball around well, so dont read too deeply into the smaller numbers. -- David LombardiCurtis Samuel Ohio State Buckeyes Junior | Running back Score: 7.7 Previous rank: unranked The most versatile weapon on the Ohio State offense has become the one it might not survive without, and Samuel will be in for a heavy workload against Clemsons defense in the College Football Playoff. With a month to cook up new ways to get the H-back involved, theres really no way to predict just how Samuel might be unleashed to add to his total of 15 touchdowns this season. -- Austin WardCorey Davis Western Michigan Broncos Senior | Wide receiver Score: 7.65 Previous rank: unranked Wisconsins secondary struggled in the second half of the Big Ten championship game against Penn State. That means Davis, the FBS leader in receiving yards, could replicate his success against the Badgers in the Cotton Bowl. He is quarterback Zach Terrells favorite target for a reason. -- Jesse TempleCarlos Watkins Clemson Tigers Sophomore | Defensive end Score: 7.6 Previous rank: 50 Ohio States best offensive play right now might be J.T. Barrett on the keeper, which means Clemson will need Watkins to plug the middle when the Buckeyes quarterback takes off. On passing downs, Ohio State might task center and Rimington Award winner Pat Elflein with stopping Watkins one-on-one, which might mean Watkins adds to his 8.5 sacks. Double Watkins, and it frees up Clemsons myriad pass-rushers. -- Jared ShankerAustin Carr Northwestern Wildcats Senior | Wide receiver Score: 7.55 Previous rank: unrankedCarr terrorizes even the best defenses, and Pittsburgh doesnt even remotely qualify for that category. Pitt ranks 109th in the FBS in scoring defense (35.6 points per game) and 127th out of 128 in pass defense (343.1 yards). If a 4-8 Syracuse team can throw for 440 yards and score 61 points against Pitt in the regular-season finale, imagine what Carr and the Wildcats can do against the Panthers in the Pinstripe Bowl. -- Jesse TempleArden Key LSU Tigers Sophomore | Defensive end Score: 7.5 Previous rank: 49LSUs star edge rusher has to be licking his chops over the opportunity that awaits in the bowl matchup against Louisville. Chasing down Lamar Jackson isnt much fun, but Louisville has surrendered 39 sacks this season, more than all but two Power 5 teams, including 11 in a blowout loss to Houston. -- David Ching Cheap Vikings Jerseys . Elite Vikings Jerseys . -- Bryant McKinnie came out of his stance and lowered his shoulder into a practice squad player, causing a crisp thud to reverberate in the Miami Dolphins practice bubble. . LOUIS -- Attorneys for the St. ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- T.J. Ward never comes off the field anymore. Why would he?The versatile Denver versatile safety is in the midst of the best season of his seven-year NFL career. His 42 tackles at the halfway point are eight shy of his total from all of last season, when he made the Pro Bowl for the second straight year. The Broncos have a wealth of defensive stars to turn loose on opponents, from Von Millers antagonizing tackles to Chris Harris Jr. shutting down route runners. What T.J. Ward does is a little bit of everything -- except catch his breath. He clobbers quarterbacks on the blitz. He batters running backs in the box.He torments tight ends over the middle. He wallops wide receivers wherever they go.Its hard to find those guys, coach Gary Kubiak said. He gives us a lot of flexibility. And productivity. If you look at my numbers, Ward said, I think Im probably playing my best right now .Ward already has more pass breakups (7 vs. 6), forced fumbles (3 vs. 2) and fumble recoveries (1 vs. 0) than he did last year when he played a major role in the Broncos first Super Bowl championship since John Elway was leading the huddle instead of the front office.Hes been lights out, linebacker Brandon Marshall said. T.J., hes killing it. Hes having an All-Pro season. I told him the other day, `Im proud of you, man. Hes out here balling out. T.J.s focused, hes hungry, hes driven, hes making all kinds of plays, on the pass, on the run, hes everywhere.Wherever hes needed, man, he makes plays, at that position. T.J.s a hell of a safety. And we all knew that when he came in here. Hes killing it. And Im happy. The only thing Ward cant seem to do is explain it all.No, theyre not asking me to do more, its just -- I dont know what it is, Ward said. Maybe more opps. Im in more positions where Im able to make more plays. Maybe guys are talking to me more. I dont know what it is.Whatever it is, Im doing it.Thats for sure.According to the Broncos public relations staff, Ward is the first NFL defensive back since at least 1994 -- and maybe ever -- to have 35 tackles, three forced fumbles, a sack and an interception iin a single month. Youth Vikings Jerseys. That was pretty surprising, Ward said of his eye-popping October. Amazing to me. But Ive just got to focus on what I can do better.Defensive backs coach Joe Woods said Wards versatility as a linebacker and safety allows the Broncos to mandate matchups rather than react to offensive formations. Some teams try to force teams to play certain ways. We try to make sure week to week that were going to dictate the matchups, Woods said. And when you have guys like T.J., it gives us that flexibility to create that matchup. That adjustability has allowed the Broncos to make up not only for the free agent loss of linebacker Danny Trevathan, but also for in-season adjustments when guys like rookie safety Justin Simmons has gotten hurt. Most NFL teams pick six captains in training camp. Not the Broncos, who pick three. Then, at the halfway point, the players vote to add three more, one each on offense, defense and special teams. For the second straight season, Wards teammates chose him to wear the C on his jersey, along with quarterback Trevor Siemian and linebacker Dekoda Watson. It feels good. It shows what my teammates think of me, Ward said. But regardless, Ill carry myself in the same manner. If I got it at the beginning of the season, end of the season, Im the same player, so thats what you get from me. It just shows that my teammates appreciate me.Free safety Darian Stewart, who matched Wards interception with one of his own last week against Philip Rivers on a day the two were featured on the Broncos program , said Ward is all over the field and relentless.Like a Tasmanian devil, said cornerback Chris Harris Jr. Thats what I call him. I call him `Taz. Hes acting crazy on the field. So, sometimes I have to calm him down a bit. While the Dodgers are preparing for the playoffs, the Padres showed their future has promise behind two rookies. WASHINGTON -- Never too early to start workin the umps, apparently. Before a single pitch was thrown in the NL Division Series between the Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Dodgers, managers Dusty Baker and Dave Roberts stirred things up a bit Friday with some balk talk -- indicating they might try to plant a seed with the umpires about opposing pitchers windups with men on base.It all began hours before Game 1, when out of the blue, Nationals skipper Baker raised the notion that Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw might be doing something he shouldnt when there are runners aboard.Quite frankly, Im hoping that ... we get some baserunners, and the umpires might call a balk or two on him, because he kind of rolls through the set position, which they dont call. But I heard that really upsets him if they do call one, Baker said with a grin. So Im hoping that they call maybe a couple of them.Asked whether he would lobby the umpires before Kershaw pitched Friday, Baker said he wouldnt -- but his first base coach, Davey Lopes, would.Davey always alerts the umpires, said Baker, in his 21st season as a manager in the majors. Cheap Steelers Jerseys. .When that was relayed to Roberts, the Dodgers rookie manager, he smiled and offered this initial response: I didnt know Dusty wanted to play that game.Roberts continued: Its a little gamesmanship. Clayton has been around a long time. His moves been the same. I think hes been called for a balk a couple times.Turning his attention to some Nationals pitchers, Roberts said, Yeah, you know what? Theres a couple guys that I might put a bug in the umpires ears (about), as well.He then referenced Game 3 starter Gio Gonzalez, closer Mark Melancon and relievers Shawn Kelley and Marc Rzepczynski. So does it work when managers try to get a message to umpires before a game?Well, I think Dusty is going to try, Roberts said. Yeah, it does, and I think that theres a little bit of banter with ... home plate umpires. There are no hard feelings with best mate Jamie Whincup in the fallout over the Bathurst 1000 controversy, Will Davison insists. Cheap Vancouver Canucks Jerseys .But it seems the same cant be said about Whincups Red Bull Racing (RBR) team boss Roland Dane.Holdens Davison admitted he looked forward to officially celebrating his Bathurst 1000 win after this weekends Gold Coast 600, almost two weeks after the Great Race.RBR launched an appeal after Whincup crossed the Bathurst finish line first, only to be relegated to 11th due to a time penalty for his role in a late incident that took out Volvos Scott McLaughlin and Holdens Garth Tander.Davison had no problem with old friend Whincup contesting the penalty despite not being able to officially celebrate his second Bathurst win until RBRs protest was dismissed on Tuesday night - 10 days after the race finish. However, Davison hinted that he may not feel the same about RBR boss Dane.Davison revealed Dane rang him after RBR launched their appeal against Whincups penalty, telling him: changing the race result was the last thing he wanted to do.He said he didnt want to take away the result but I dont think it meant he wasnt trying to, Davison told AAP.But it is a cut throat industry and always will be.But I was always confident that we were safe.Davison has been best mates with Whincup since their junior go kart days and they stay in close contact on the Gold Coast where they are both based.Davison said nothing had changed despite RBRs appeal earning the ire of critics, including Supercars boss James Warburton who described it as un-Australian.It was an awkward situation for everyone, he said. But Jamie and I didnt have issues with each other because I wasnt personally involved in the incident. There are no hard feelings. Everyone did what they had to do rightly or wrongly.Davison said his only regret was that his team could not have officially popped the champagne over Bathurst earlier.I wish our boys were able to enjoy it a bit more the last week, he said. But it doesnt mean we wont enjoy it when we get a bit of time off soon.Davison was confident that the RBR appeal would fail but reckoned he had plenty up his sleeve if the worst case scenario arose.I didnt want it to go any further but I wasnt concerned, he said. But we knew some facts. I didnt try and race Jamie in the final laps after he got that time penalty. We knew he wasnt in the race with 11 laps to go so I purposely didnt challenge him.We kept our mouths shut and it all worked out.Meanwhile, series leader Shane van Gisbergen was fastest (one minute, 10.42 seconds) in Fridays practice ahead of this weekends two 300km races. NEW YORK -- Chris Mullins first season as coach at St. Wholesale Pelicans Jerseys . Johns ended with an 8-24 record, including 1-17 in the Big East. Along the way there was a school-record 16-game losing streak and the Red Storm closed the season by losing 21 of their last 22 games.Whatever Year 2 brings will have a different look because of the depth the team will have this season. There are backups at every position and the players and coaching staff have had a summer together. And there are some pretty good players joining the program. The talent level has improved tremendously, Mullin said Thursday at St. Johns media day. Our focus has been on practice, daily improvement and working together. The biggest advantage has been the guys who returned know what were looking to do within our system. That experience is invaluable.Guard Federico Mussini leads the returners and his role will change dramatically with depth allowing him to spend time away from the point where he put in a lot of time last season.Shamorie Ponds was chosen Big East preseason freshmen of the year by the coaches, and redshirt freshman Marcus LoVett is eligible after sitting out last season. Sophomore Malik Ellison is hoping for an injury-free season.Every one of us can play both guard positions, Mussini said. When we play together, anyone of us can control the ball and that will allow us to run more.Kassoum Yakwe and Yankuba Sima both added some weight over the summer and they will be joined up front by Tennessee transfer Tariq Owens, junior college swingman Bashir Ahmed and freshman Richard Freudenberg from Germany. That means Mullin will have a lot more options. One of the biggest advantages we will have this year is being able to play multiple lineups, he said. We practice different lineups to see who functions well together and weve liked a lot of different combinations. We might want to force another team to play big or small and we have the ability to do that now.The Red Storm were picked eighth in the 10-team conference by the coaches, ahead of Providence and DePaul.THE SCHEDULEThe Red Storm open the season at home Nov. 11 against Bethune-Cookman. Theres a trip to the Battle 4 Atlantis where they open with Michigan State. The last game of the nonconference schedule is Dec. 21 at Syracuse. Big East play opens Dec. 29 at home against Butler.THE STAFFMullin had to replace assistant coach Barry Rohrssen, who left the program, and he did it by promoting Mitch Richmond. Not many college coaching staffs can brag it has two Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famers but Mullin and Richmond, longtime teammates with the Golden State Warriors, have the rings.Everybody learns from them every day, LoVett said. They have so much experience and its great just to sit and talk with them.STRAIGHT SHOOTERMullin is considered one of the best shooters to ever let it go and it appears nothing has changed since he stopped playing. KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A little home goodness the week of Thanksgiving sits well with Mark Fox.The Georgia basketball coach guided the Bulldogs (3-1) into the championship game of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic and will face a tall task Tuesday he actually welcomes.Although the final-round opponent will be No. 5 Kansas (3-1), Fox will get to play an opponent he is familiar with after growing up in the southwest Kansas town of Garden City. He obtained his masters degree at Kansas, where he frequented practices when Roy Williams was coach. Fox also coached at Kansas State as a young assistant.Kansas is the benchmark for great basketball, Fox said. Theres KU and theres UK, and theyre both blue, and theyre both terrific. But I have the utmost respect for the history and tradition of Kansas basketball because I grew up watching it.The chance to coach against the Jayhawks was facilitated by an 81-73 semifinal win Monday over George Washington. The Bulldogs recovered from a 36-35 halftime deficit behind 18 points apiece from senior guard J.J. Frazier and junior forward Yante Maten. One key for the Bulldogs came after Fox called for something he knew Williams detested from watching those Kansas practices, a zone defense. It was really back and forth for much of the game, Fox said. I thought it was our move to the zone, which makes my skin curl, is what really helped us. We had a hard time guarding them for a minute in man-to-man and the zone seemed to help us.Maten leads Georgia in scoring and rebounding with averages of 20.8 and 8.5. Frazier adds an 18.8-point average as the Bulldogs other scorer averaging in double figures.A chance for Georgia, picked fourth in the SEC, to play Kansas is just another special element about the CBE Classic. On Frriday, two of the programs legends, standout forward Dominique Wilkins and coach Hugh Durham, were inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame, which is connected to Sprint Center. Freshman guard Josh Jackson netted 22 points to pace Kansas, the first time senior point guard Frank Mason, who added 20, did not lead the Jayhawks in scoring.Several of Jacksons points came off thunderous dunks.I dunk so hard so nobody challenges me when I go to the basket, said Jackson, who added that he patterns his drives after Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder.Jackson said one of the qualities he can bring the Jayhawks is toughness, and said that could become Kansas identity. If so, they will need more production underneath. Their two frontcourt starters, senior Landen Lucas and sophomore Carlton Bragg, combined for just seven points against UAB, though they did snag 11 rebounds. A 7-foot freshman backup, Udoka Azubuike, matched Jacksons team-high of seven boards.Weve got five good perimeter players, but weve got to find some way to make a basket inside, Kansas coach Bill Self said.Kansas stands 32-6 all-time at Sprint Center.
